Opened in 1911, New Orleans Museum of Art is the city's oldest fine arts museum. At its opening, the institution featured only 9 works of art and has since grown to house 40,000 objects. Most notably, NOMA features impressive collections of French and American Art as well as photography, glass, and works with origins in Africa and Japan. NOMA is also home to the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Within these five acres, over 60 sculptures are featured against a lush landscape of oaks, magnolias, and camellias.
Works from the permanent collection, along with continuously changing temporary exhibitions, are on view in the museum's 46 galleries. The collection, noted for its extraordinary strengths in French and American art, photography, glass, and African and Japanese works, continues to expand and grow, making NOMA one of the top art museums in the south.
Located a short drive or ambitious walk from Le Méridien New Orleans, NOMA offers collections among the best in the south-- making it a must-visit for any art enthusiast.
